Coventry City are assembling a squad ahead of their return to the top flight for the first time since the 2000-01 campaign.
Frank Lampard is targeting additional acquisitions as he looks to build a competitive side.
The club have received significant encouragement in their efforts to land Francisco Moura, Fikayo Tomori, Mykhailo Mudryk and Angel Gomes. Lampard has shattered Coventry’s transfer record on four occasions during the current window, committing £86.2million to players including Carl Rushworth, Caleb Yirenky, Aurele Amenda, Frank Onyeka and Loum Tchaouna.
The club are gearing up for life in the Premier League for the first time in over two decades. Their campaign gets underway at home to Arsenal on August 21.
While the midfield and backline have already been reinforced, further arrivals are deemed essential if Lampard’s side are to avoid immediate relegation. With this in mind, Coventry Live brings you the latest on four potential signings.
Francisco Moura
The defender was flagged as a priority earlier in the transfer window and now the full-back is understood to be keen on departing Porto. Correio da Manha reports that manager Francesco Farioli acknowledged a player had approached him regarding a potential move away when speaking about a Porto player reaching out to him.
Prior to their match with Alverca, Farioli said he would be very direct and noted that only one player had spoken with him about the possibility of leaving, with another player he knows also wanting to go.
Moura was not explicitly identified by the Porto coach, though the Portuguese publication maintains the 26-year-old intends to depart. The defender carries a £7m valuation on Transfermarkt, with Olympiacos also monitoring his situation.
Angel Gomes
French outlet L’Equipe reports that the club have contacted Marseille about Gomes. The midfielder, 25, spent the latter portion of last term at Wolves on loan and is understood to be favouring a comeback to English football.
The Metro indicates the £9m-valued playmaker is determined to establish himself in the top division. Marseille, who signed him without a fee last summer, are reluctant to sell but will not prevent his departure should terms be reached.
The French club’s financial circumstances mean they must move on key assets. Earlier reports confirm Wolves possessed a £6m purchase option during his Molineux stint.
Mykhailo Mudryk
Chelsea have signalled their willingness to sanction a temporary departure for Mudryk. The London club are understood to be prepared to sanction a loan spell elsewhere for the winger to accumulate consistent game time while building towards full match fitness.
Chelsea acquired Mudryk for £61m in 2023, yet the Ukrainian international has featured nowhere near the first team in two years due to a doping suspension. Following discussions after Chelsea’s pre-season Asian tour, he has accepted a loan move.
Three top-flight clubs are in pursuit of the 25-year-old, who favours staying within the Premier League. The Mail reports Lampard is hoping to rekindle a working relationship with the winger from his second spell at Stamford Bridge in 2023.
Fikayo Tomori
Italian reports indicate the club have made overtures for AC Milan’s Tomori. Quotidiano Sportivo states Coventry are among three suitors offering the centre-back a route out of Serie A.
Tomori’s current valuation stands at approximately £15m, with just twelve months remaining on his contract in Italy. Liverpool and Newcastle are also credited with interest.
The defender previously worked under Lampard during his time at Derby County and subsequently at Chelsea.
