Coventry City are on the verge of securing the permanent transfer of Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi, according to media reports.
The forward is anticipated to join the CBS Arena club before their Premier League comeback. Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed on Saturday that Coventry have finalized terms with Forest, with the medical examination scheduled to take place this week.
It is understood the ex-Liverpool attacker will command a fee of £17million. Awoniyi represented Forest’s record acquisition when he arrived from Union Berlin in 2022, with the deal worth £17.2m.
The 29-year-old has found the net 23 times in 103 appearances at the City Ground, though his first-team opportunities have diminished following the preferences for Chris Wood and Igor Jesus. He is poised to strengthen Frank Lampard’s attacking ranks, linking up with Haji Wright, Brandon Thomas-Asante and Ellis Simms. Wright currently faces an injury concern, with Lampard declining to specify the severity of the issue.
Coventry have maintained an active approach to strengthening their squad during the summer months in preparation for the 2026/27 season. Five new players have arrived at the club, including Gustavo Hamer’s comeback from Sheffield United and Carl Rushworth converting his loan arrangement from Brighton into a permanent deal.
Loum Tchaouna has joined from Burnley, Ghana international Caleb Yirenkyi has been acquired from FC Nordsjaelland, and centre-back Aurele Amenda has transferred from Eintracht Frankfurt.
